WHy Organic?
Organic lawns are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, or genetically modified organisms. Organics is about utilizing natural ingredients to feed the soil, not the plant. This is a vital and important difference in how synthetic fertilizers work vs organic fertilizers.
An organic lawn is about establishing a healthy soil ecosystem teeming with beneficial bacteria and fungus. This ecosystem is critical for a healthy lawn. Organic fertilizers are broken down efficiently and effectively into nutrients that the lawn can then utilize.
Synthetic fertilizers skip the step of providing nutrients to the soil and instead provide it directly to the plants. While this is a quick and effective way to feed a lawn, a majority of the nutrients are washed away into our rivers, lakes, and streams. Fairly quickly the lawn needs fertilizing again and the cycle continues. After years of applying synthetic fertilizers, the lawn becomes “addicted” and will not grow without them.
As people become more concerned about what's in and around their bodies, an organic lawn provides a tangible way to benefit the environment, local economy, and public health. An organic lawn is safer for kids and pets while being thicker, greener, and less expensive.
